The flagbearer of the Nationwide Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, believes the taking place in Parliament, which has seen the NDC all of a sudden turning into the Majority facet, is a sign of the victory that awaits the celebration within the December 7 basic elections.

The NDC Members of Parliament, who till Thursday, October 17, 2024, had been the Minority Caucus of Parliament of Ghana within the eighth Parliament, are actually on the opposite facet of the Home—the Majority.

The unprecedented transfer and alter occurred after the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, declared 4 seats within the Home vacant.

It follows a transfer by the NDC MPs on the Speaker, based mostly on Article 97 [1(g) & (h)] of the 1992 Structure, which states that “A member of Parliament shall vacate his seat in Parliament if he leaves the celebration of which he was a member on the time of his election to Parliament to affix one other celebration or seeks to stay in Parliament as an unbiased member; or if he was elected a member of Parliament as an unbiased candidate and joins a political celebration.”

The previous Minority Chief, Haruna Iddrisu, had earlier introduced the intent of his caucus to invoke Article 97(g) and demand that the seats of three New Patriotic Get together MPs and that of an MP from the Nationwide Democratic Congress caucus be declared vacant.

The transfer by Haruna Iddrisu comes after the MPs for Agona West and Suhum, who’re members of the New Patriotic Get together (NPP), filed their nominations to contest within the 2024 parliamentary election as unbiased candidates.

The unbiased MP for Fomena has additionally filed his nomination to contest within the election on the ticket of the NPP, and the Amenfi Central MP, a member of the Nationwide Democratic Congress (NDC), additionally filed his nomination to contest as an unbiased candidate.

Article 97 [1(g) & (h)] of the 1992 Structure states that “a member of Parliament shall vacate his seat in Parliament if he leaves the celebration of which he was a member on the time of his election to Parliament to affix one other celebration or seeks to stay in Parliament as an unbiased member; or if he was elected a member of Parliament as an unbiased candidate and joins a political celebration.”

Reacting to the information whereas on a marketing campaign tour within the Kpone-Katamanso constituency on Thursday, October 17, 2024, John Mahama welcomed the choice, including that it’s a clear indication that the NDC will win the forthcoming elections.

“The Speaker has declared 4 seats vacant. Of the 4 seats, 3 are from the NPP and 1 from the NDC. So, if these seats have been declared vacant, then it means within the life of 1 parliament, the Minority has turned to the Majority and the Majority has turned to the Minority.

“So, for me, God is even exhibiting an indication of what’s going to occur. As a result of even earlier than now we have solid one single poll, the NDC has grow to be the Majority,” John Mahama said.
