Ghanaian Highlife musician and songwriter Kofi Kinaata has shed light on how he finances his annual concert, ‘Made in Taadi’.

Speaking in an interview on Starr FM on July 6, 2025, Kinaata revealed that despite often running at a loss, his motivation for organising the show is to give back to the people of Takoradi, not to make money.

“Sometimes, your focus is on the happiness of the people and the kind of entertainment vibe it brings to Takoradi, so you don’t even focus on how much it costs. It’s only after everything that you realize you’ve made a loss,” he explained.

Kinaata acknowledged that while sponsorship does come in, it often covers only a fraction of the total cost.

“Sponsorships come, but you know how event planning goes, we end up covering 80%, and the sponsorship only handles about 20%,” he said.

When asked about potentially charging attendees for the show, Kinaata was firm that ‘Made in Taadi’ will always remain a free event.

He emphasised that while he may consider hosting ticketed concerts in the future, they would be branded differently.

“We can have paid shows, but not ‘Made in Taadi.’ That name stands for something special, t’s meant to give back to the people of Takoradi.

“If we ever have to charge for it, we’d have to explain why, because it has always been free,” he said.

Kinaata also expressed hope for future government or regional sponsorship, noting that the scale and impact of the event have outgrown what he can handle alone.

“Going forward, if we could get strong support from the government or the region, if they see that this has become too big for just Kofi Kinaata, it would be great for them to come on board. That way, I wouldn’t have to charge people, which would go against the purpose of the show,” he added.
