John Setor Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has leveled some accusations against the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Lydia Alhassan.

Dumelo has alleged that Lydia Alhassan has threatened a security officer at the University of Ghana after her attempt to bribe him with rice and oil was rejected.

The claims come after a video went viral showing the security personnel publicly criticizing Alhassan for her failure to support them over the past eight years, yet now offering them gifts in exchange for votes.

In the video, the security officer insists that the rice and oil will not influence his vote, stating that this is the first time Alhassan has extended any form of assistance to him and his colleagues in all the years she has served as MP.

However, Dumelo has now claimed that following the officer’s refusal to be bought, Lydia Alhassan has allegedly pressured him to retract his statement or face losing his job.

“I have received reports that the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan, allegedly met with a security officer at the University of Ghana, Legon, and attempted to bribe him with rice and oil,” Dumelo said in a post. “The officer, seen in a video, clearly stated that he would not be influenced by the gifts. Now, he is reportedly being pressured to withdraw his statement or risk being fired.”

Dumelo also urged voters to reject such intimidation tactics and not to allow themselves to be manipulated by politicians. “I urge voters to reject such intimidation. This is a university community, and individuals must have the courage to stand against oppression,” he added.
