Ghanaian relationship counsellor George Lutterodt has sparked discussion with claims that the age at which a woman gives birth could influence the intellectual development of her child.
Lutterodt made the assertion during a discussion on Hitz FM, where he urged young women who want to have children not to unnecessarily postpone childbirth.
According to the counsellor, children born to mothers in their twenties are more likely to develop stronger intellectual abilities, even in the absence of formal education.
“If you’re a young lady who thinks that you want to have a child, it’s better. Children who are born early, if your mother gives birth to you within the twenties, you’re more intelligent even if you don’t go to school,” he said.
He also suggested that having a child at an older age could have the opposite effect, particularly when the mother is 38 or older.
“If they give birth to you from 38 plus, your mind will be dull and it won’t be easy for you when learning,” he stated.

Lutterodt maintained that his position was not merely an opinion, insisting that there was clinical evidence to support the claim.
“It’s clinically proven,” he disclosed.
Beyond the issue of childbirth and age, the counsellor questioned the growing emphasis on finding an ideal partner before starting a family.
He challenged young women who want children but continue to wait for what they consider the appropriate time or relationship.
“You’re young, and you won’t give birth; what’s your problem?” he questioned.
Lutterodt further chastised the idea of a “Mr Right”, arguing that some women are being persuaded to delay having children while waiting for an ideal partner.
“There’s no Mr Right anywhere; the church is lying to you,” he averred.
