Country music superstar Luke Bryan‘s 18-year-old son Bo is recovering after suffering a broken collarbone during a high school football game on Friday night.

Thomas ‘Bo’ Boyer Bryan, who serves as the starting quarterback for Battle Ground Academy in Tennessee, was injured during a showdown with Pope John Paul II High School.

The teenage playmaker was sacked during the contest, landing heavily on his right shoulder as two opposing defenders crashed down directly on top of him.

Medical staff and team trainers placed his arm in a sling and wrapped his shoulder before keeping him on the sideline for the rest of the game.

Bo confirmed the fracture on his Instagram on Saturday, writing: ‘Broke my collarbone last night. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We will be back.’

Speaking with local media following the contest, the high school star admitted he immediately sensed the severity of the painful blow once he got back to his feet.

‘I thought it was just a stinger when I hit the ground,’ Bo explained to reporters.

‘Once I got up I knew something was wrong. When I got to the sideline, I really knew something was wrong.’

Battle Ground Academy head coach Bobby Bentley acknowledged the difficult road ahead for the squad as they navigate losing their key offensive player.

‘I don’t know what we’re looking at yet,’ Bentley said. ‘We’ll have to figure this thing out. That’s the challenge for us as a team and as coaches. What do we do? How do we do it? We’re going to figure it out.’

The setback marks a devastating blow to Bo’s senior campaign, with the signal-caller rated as one of the premier high school quarterbacks in the entire region.

Bo entered Friday’s matchup having recorded 2,006 passing yards, 30 passing touchdowns and just three interceptions across an explosive season.

Bryan, 50, has frequently spoken with pride about his eldest son’s development on the gridiron, having watched him navigate the pressures of his senior campaign.

‘You see the hard work he puts in, and you just want the hard work to pay off,’ the country singer previously told reporters about watching Bo play.

‘The main thing is to see his hard work and his commitment and his love for the game. I’m just so proud of him,’ the proud father added.
