Iconic Ghanaian goalkeeper, Sammy Adjei has said that local players in the country pay more attention to the money they can make from football than to their commitment to the game.
He recalled that during his playing days, there were moments when both Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak supporters showered him with gifts, but that did not distract him from performing on the pitch.
The legendary goalkeeper noted that he and his teammates were more concerned about excelling for the Phobia club rather than chasing higher income.

Sammy Adjei indicated that the situation is quite different today, as players now prioritize money when making major career decisions instead of showing commitment to winning games.
“Kotoko fans gave me more money and gifts. Hearts of Oak fans did the same, but not as much as Kotoko. I am not disrespecting them. The current players are more focused on money than football.
“During our time, we decided to play for Hearts and for the fans as well. When they came to the stadium, a win was their bonus. Some of us trained on the beach for days to keep ourselves in shape,” he said during an interview with Angel FM.
