Liverpool overcame a deficit to defeat Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield, securing the Premier League title in spectacular fashion.

Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister, and Cody Gakpo all almost sealed a record-tying 20th Premier League title in the first half, but Mohammed Salah’s 28th goal in an incredible season and an own goal from Destiny Udogie made the scoreline clear.

Former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke gave Spurs an early lead, threatening to spoil a celebration that had started hours before kickoff, but the Londoners offered little opposition as the Reds settled into gear.

With four games remaining, the Merseysiders won their second title in thirty-five years. Additionally, it is the first time in that time frame that they have been allowed to celebrate in front of supporters following their 2020 triumph during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Arne Slot’s team entered the match with a 12-point advantage over Arsenal, who were in second position, and all they needed was a draw to officially win the title, which had seemed certain for a few weeks.

The win completes Slot’s incredible debut season as manager, having taken over from the wildly successful and well-liked Jurgen Klopp last summer.

After Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini, and Antonio Conte, Slot is the fifth manager to win the Premier League in their first season and the first Dutch manager to do so.
