Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has admitted the club could be forced into late transfer business ahead of next week’s deadline, with concerns mounting over Jeremie Frimpong’s latest injury and its impact on squad depth.

The Dutch full back has already been ruled out of Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Saturday, January 31, 2026 while Liverpool’s medical team continues to assess the severity of the problem.

Early indications suggest Frimpong could be sidelined for several weeks, raising fears of a prolonged absence similar to the hamstring injury that kept him out for nearly two months earlier this season.

Speaking after Liverpool’s emphatic 6-0 Champions League victory over Qarabag, Slot stressed that any potential recruitment would be guided by the club’s long-term vision rather than panic driven decisions.

“We as a club always make decisions that we think are smart decisions. We don’t only look at the short term, we also look at the long term.”

“That’s why we sign young, very good players who can still develop, and we’re already seeing that development with some of them,” Slot said.
