Legendary Nigerian footballer, Mikel Obi, has expressed worry over the performance of Manchester City following their 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the 2024/2025 English Premier League season.

He pointed out that Manchester City’s injury woes, which include key players like 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Diaz, Savinho, and others, have weakened the performance of the team.

The former captain of the Super Eagles noted that their competitors in the Premier League, Liverpool, have been excelling this season and leading the league table because most of their key players are fit and delivering for the team.

Speaking as a pundit on beINSPORTS, Mikel Obi bemoaned Manchester City’s injury crisis and how it would impact their chances of winning the title this season.

“I can’t remember the last time Manchester City lost two games in a row, it’s a worry. But of course, we know the reasons, there are so many injuries in the team right now with the likes of Rodri, De Bruyne, Ruben Diaz and Savinho all injured.

“They need to keep players fit and that’s probably one thing that’s going right for Liverpool. Because they have players fit. Arne Slot is very lucky because he has his firepower. The likes of Salah, Diaz, Nunez, Gakpo, all these players are fit and that’s why they’re top of the league,” he commented.

Manchester City’s performance has come under scrutiny after losing 2-1 to Tottenham in the EFL Cup and also falling to Bournemouth by the same scoreline in the Premier League.

On the Premier League table, Liverpool are leading with 25 points, Manchester City are second with 23 points, Nottingham Forest are in third place with 19, while Chelsea are fourth with 18 points.
