The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo, has reaffirmed his commitment to revitalising the authority, while calling on all staff to unite in making VRA great again.

This stirring call to action was made during his engagement with employees at the Anwomaso 1 Thermal Power Plant in Kumasi, as part of his nationwide tour of operational sites.

His visit provided an open forum for both unionised and senior staff to engage in meaningful discussions, raise concerns, and share ideas on career development and the overall progress of the organisation.

Accompanying him were key VRA executives, including Clement Boakye, Director of Corporate Strategy; Samuel Odartey Lamptey, Director of Thermal Generation SBU; Daniel Y. D. Onny, Director of Strategic Projects and New Business; and Francis Abban, Manager of Corporate Communications and Branding.

Since assuming office on January 18, 2025, Obeng-Kenzo has demonstrated a hands-on leadership style, visiting various VRA workstations to understand first-hand the challenges and aspirations of staff.

In Kumasi, he reiterated his vision to strengthen VRA’s position as Ghana’s premier electricity provider, with a strategic focus on increasing power exports to neighboring countries while ensuring affordable energy production for national development.

Recognizing that VRA’s human resource is its most valuable asset, Obeng-Kenzo assured staff of his unwavering commitment to their welfare.

He outlined plans to enhance working conditions, modernize tools and equipment, and provide continuous professional development through world-class training programs.

He stressed that these initiatives would not only improve operational efficiency but also position VRA employees as industry leaders capable of representing the Authority on global energy platforms.

He underscored that every employee, whether in administration, finance, engineering, or technical roles—has a critical part to play in VRA’s success.

“When each of us understands our contribution to the big picture, achieving our collective goals will be much easier,” he stated.

A major highlight of his visit was the announcement of government-approved expansion projects for various thermal plants, which will soon commence.

He expressed optimism that these developments would significantly boost Ghana’s electricity generation capacity, aligning with the government’s directive for VRA to take a leading role in national energy security.

To conclude his visit, Obeng-Kenzo inspected the ongoing second phase of the Anwomaso Thermal Plant, which is projected to add an additional 100 megawatts to Ghana’s power supply by the end of 2025.

With a clear vision and decisive leadership, Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo continues to drive a culture of excellence, innovation, and teamwork within the VRA.

His unwavering commitment to staff welfare and operational efficiency signals a bright future for the Authority and Ghana’s energy sector as a whole.
