Ghanaian comic actor Kalybos has expressed support for the free dialysis treatment initiative implemented to assist kidney patients across the country.

Speaking at the official ceremony where all kidney patients were integrated into the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) benefit package, Kalybos urged Ghanaians not to politicise the initiative, emphasising that it intends to serve the collective interest of all citizens.

“I am happy to witness this initiative today, and I pray that it continues. My only plea is that we don’t politicize it. Over the years, we’ve seen different governments turn such programs into political issues. Funding dialysis centers is expensive in other countries, so if we have this right here in Ghana, we must value and hold on to it,” he said.

Comedian Jeneral Ntatia, who also attended the event, expressed his satisfaction with the initiative, adding, “I’m happy this initiative is in place, and I’ll do my best to raise awareness on the importance of staying healthy.”

    Background

In November 2024, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia announced during his 15-day tour of the Ashanti Region that the government would provide free dialysis treatment for all kidney patients, with coverage under the NHIS.

Dr. Bawumia explained that the initiative, which previously covered only patients aged 60 and above or under 18, would now extend to all patients regardless of age.
