Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has responded to people who criticised her for speaking about the state of Ghana’s movie industry.

In an Instagram post on July 15, 2025, Gloria Sarfo shared her thoughts about how the movie industry is not moving forward and wasting a lot of talent.

In her submission, she said that Ghana’s movie industry is wasting talent because there is no work going on.

Many people in the entertainment industry, especially those working in movies, did not take her comments well.

Some accused her of chasing clout, while others claimed she has not contributed much to the growth of the industry apart from accepting acting roles.

Critics on social media and traditional media platforms called her out for speaking negatively about the industry.

In response to the backlash, the actress posted again on Instagram on July 20, 2025, to defend herself.

She noted that her earlier comments were not intended to disrespect anyone or to paint the industry in a bad light.

“God knows I didn’t post that for clout chasing!! God knows I didn’t intend to demean anyone or my country!! God knows that I didn’t post that, because I was just excited to be filming in Nigeria (because this is not my first time)!! God knows that I had good intentions with that post!! He knows that I wasn’t trying to be selfish!!” Gloria wrote.

She went on to say that the people criticising her know she is not a boastful person and that she has always stood up for the movie industry in her own way.

“Meanwhile, they also know that I am not boastful!! They know, that I have always fought and championed this course, even without them!! Yet, a few of those who are directly affected, came under my post to type HMMMMMMMM. Even the young ones I was intentionally fighting for, also came to express their ignorance and disrespect me!!” she added.

Gloria also shared her disappointment in how some media personalities and pundits used their platforms to insult her instead of understanding the message she was trying to pass across.

“And pundits sit on national television/radio to insult and demean my personality and brand!! So, I’ll borrow their word, hmmmmmmmm & let’s all pretend that it is all rosy publicly, and cry privately!! Let’s continue to pretend like we don’t know the truth!! Yes, we have a perfect industry, one that is solid, no talent is being wasted, producers treat actors very well, and pay them good!! Ghanaian actors are the happiest actors in the world!! Ghanaian filmmakers produce 1000 movies every year!!” she wrote.

She ended her post by stating that she is done trying to fight for the industry and will now focus on building her personal brand, as many close to her have always advised.

“Until then, I wish everyone all the best. ‘Momma yEn nk) so aa, nnunu yEn ho, na yEn sere.’ Indeed, an industry not worth fighting for!! I rest my case!! Like my loved ones will say, Gloria focus on your brand. (I guess it’s about time!!) NB: this is not for pity,” she concluded.
