An Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I), Michael Kwame, Kadjebi District Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has advised the citizenry to be cautious with leaking gas cylinders.

He stated that the best thing the users could do was to change the damaged regulator, and if the damage was severe, to abandon that cylinder to avoid an explosion.

“Do not keep your gas cylinders inside your room, keep them outside,” he added.

ADO I Kwame gave this advice during a community engagement in Pampawie, a farming community in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region.

He also advised resident of the predominantly farming community to create fire belts around their cleared farmlands before burning to avoid bushfires and their devastating effects.

The District Commander stated, “Fire is a good servant but a bad master” if not controlled and used properly.

ADO I Kwame also advised residents to ensure that fires are completely extinguished before leaving them unattended, keep flammable materials away from heat sources, avoid overloading electrical outlets and extension cords, and dispose of cigarettes and matches properly.
