Legon Cities have been relegated from the Ghana Premier League following a crushing 4–1 home defeat to Nations FC at the University of Ghana Stadium on Monday, May 19, 2025.

Needing a win to keep their survival hopes alive, the 2016 champions collapsed under pressure, extending their winless run to nine matches and confirming their fall to the second tier.

It was Kelvin Ampoful who opened the scoring for Nations FC in the 28th minute, but Albert Yeboah gave the Royals a lifeline with an equaliser just before halftime.

However, the visitors returned stronger, dominating the second half with goals from Emmanuel Annor, Sadiq Alhassan, and a second from Ampoful in stoppage time to seal an emphatic victory.

The result not only condemned Legon Cities to relegation but also saw Nations FC climb to the top of the league table with 57 points, one ahead of Bibiani Gold Stars, with three games to go.

With the title now in sight, Nations FC will be aiming for a strong finish to secure their first-ever league championship.

For Legon Cities, the final whistle marked a devastating fall from grace, just nine years after lifting the league title and undergoing a major rebrand, the Royals now face the harsh reality of life in Division One.
