New Asante Kotoko signing Kwame Poku has revealed how tough it was for him to leave the Porcupine Warriors in 2021.

Poku departed from Asante Kotoko for USM Alger in 2021 after a stellar 2020/21 season, during which he scored nine goals.

However, a lack of game appearances coupled with injuries kept him out of USM Alger’s squad, prompting his return to the club where he made a name for himself.

According to the striker, leaving Asante Kotoko was a difficult decision.

In his first interview with Kotoko’s media team since his return, Poku shared how emotional the experience was.

“Leaving Kotoko was a hard decision for me. The morning before my departure, I felt bad about leaving a great club like Kotoko,” he said.

Although he has yet to fully hit his stride, Poku is determined to help Asante Kotoko achieve success.

His inability to win a trophy during his first stint with the club has motivated him to aim for glory this time around.

“I have to help the team as a whole to achieve its goals—win trophies and compete on the continent. I couldn’t win any trophy in my first stint, but I believe this time I have a lot to offer,” he added.

Poku was re-signed by Asante Kotoko on a free transfer on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

He inked a two-and-a-half-year deal that runs until mid-2027.

He was officially unveiled before Asante Kotoko’s victory over Hearts of Oak on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
