Medikal came to the defence of Kwesi Arthur

Ghanaian rapper, Medikal, has also weighed into the ongoing tension between his colleague Kwesi Arthur and his former management, calling on the label to allow the rapper to move on with his career.

In a video shared on his social media on January 22, 2026, Medikal revealed that he knew Kwesi Arthur even before the release of his breakout song ‘Grind Day’ in 2017, describing him as a passionate and talented young man who was determined to succeed.

According to Medikal, it is unfair for an artiste who is no longer working with a label to be pursued over financial demands simply for attempting to release new music.

“If you are no longer working together and he wants to drop his song, why are you still chasing him to pay some amount of dollars?” he questioned.

Medikal further alleged that Kwesi Arthur’s former label still owns his first YouTube channel, which has most of his biggest hits, forcing the artiste to create a new channel and start afresh.

“He had to create his cannel and start afresh and they are trying to block his shine?” he asked.

He criticised what he described as a prevailing mentality in Ghana where individuals or organisations feel entitled to artistes they once supported after they achieve success.

“That is this mentality of this country. When people help someone and that person blows up, they think they are owed,” he added.

Citing his own personal experience, Medikal said he was fortunate to have mentors like Criss Waddle who supported him without attempting to control his career.

He also argued that Kwesi Arthur significantly contributed to the growth and prominence of his former label.

“They say they made him, but he also carried the name of the label,” Medikal stated.

While noting that Kwesi Arthur’s situation is not isolated, Medikal said several artistes face similar challenges with their labels but declined to mention names.

He concluded by urging Kwesi Arthur’s ex-management to let the rapper pursue his career freely.

“If they say they made him, then they should be able to create another person,” he said.
