Ghana international Lawrence Agyekum has lauded the Black Stars technical team, led by head coach Otto Addo, for the encouragement and support extended to him since his debut earlier this year.

The Cercle Brugge midfielder received his maiden call-up to the senior national team in March 2025 during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He made his debut at the Accra Sports Stadium, coming on as a second-half substitute for Thomas Partey in Ghana’s emphatic victory over Chad.

Agyekum credited the national team’s coaching staff for helping him integrate smoothly into the squad.

“They told me that if I ever need anything, I shouldn’t hesitate to talk to them that kind of mentality gives confidence to a new player and shows that the coaches are behind you,” he said in an interview with Joy Sports.

The 21-year-old added that the open and supportive nature of the current staff contrasts with past experiences some players face elsewhere.

“There are some coaches it’s hard as a player to reach out to… but for me, the technical staff have been good. They’ve really helped me a lot.”
