Legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo’s son has said that Spanish star player Lamine Yamal has not won adequate laurels to be compared to the greats in the game.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s son emphasised that despite the Spanish footballer’s brilliance, there are no major awards to his credit for him to be regarded as one of the best in football.
The Portugal U15 team player stated; “Lamine is very good but he still has not won anything yet.”
This comment has sparked mixed reactions from some football fans as he did not specify whether it is individual awards or team awards.
Historical records prove that, at age 18, Yamal led the Spanish national team to win the 2024 European Championship, playing a crucial role with goals and assists.
In the 2024/2025 season, the Spanish teenager helped Barcelona win La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup with the team getting eliminated in the Champions League semi-final.
Although Ronaldo Jr doesn’t believe Yamal has achieved the necessary credentials to be listed among the great players of all time, he however seized a moment to eulogize the young Barcelona gem.
According to him, the Barcelona attacker’s recent performances in elite competitions, at his young age, are incredible and impress him a lot.
Ronaldo Jr stated that Yamal is currently a better footballer than his father who plays for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr and continues to make an impact in games.
During a session with streamer 2xRKai shared on X on July 14, 2025, when asked about a comparison between Yamal and his father, Ronaldo Jr replied, “Right now? Yeah [Yamal better than his father].”
Yamal has been touted as one of the strong contenders for the 2025 Ballon d’Or award.
