The Lagos State Government has announced plans to partially close sections of the Lekki–Ajah corridor for eight months to enable major rehabilitation and improvement works aimed at easing traffic congestion and enhancing road safety.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, explaining that the project will run from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

According to Osiyemi, the rehabilitation has already started, with preliminary works to be carried out in two phases to reduce disruption to vehicular movement along the busy corridor.

He explained that the first phase will cover seven sections of the road, during which one lane will be closed while the other remains open to motorists.

Once repairs on the first lane are completed, construction will switch to the opposite side.

For the second phase, vehicles moving from Ajah toward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while work continues on the other.

Osiyemi noted that some portions of the corridor will experience partial closures for the duration of the project.

He appealed to motorists and residents to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officers, emphasizing that the state government is committed to providing durable and efficient road infrastructure.

“Motorists heading toward Lekki and Ajah will continue to have access throughout the construction. When the first lane is completed, work will shift to the second. At all times, movement toward Ajah will remain open. We urge road users to obey traffic officials and follow diversion signs as directed. These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to improve road conditions and ensure safer, smoother journeys for everyone.” The commissioner said
