In a night of great emotions at the Rubén Rodríguez Coliseum in Bayamón, Stephanie “La Medicina” Piñeiro (10-0, 3KOs) successfully made her first defense of the interim welterweight (147 lbs) world championship of the World Boxing Association (WBA) in front of her home crowd, defeating former double world champion Anahí “La Indiecita” Sánchez (26-7, 13KOs) by a wide unanimous decision.
Piñeiro maintained a solid grip on the fight throughout the 10 rounds, landing effective combinations on Sánchez. Both fighters were knocked down in the fourth round. The judges scored it 100-90 and 98-92 (twice).
In the main event, former two-time world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” López and Jonathan “Gallo the Producer” Rosario faced off for four exciting rounds, with neither able to find a decisive advantage. The fight was declared a majority draw, with one judge scoring it for “Juanma” and the other two scoring it a draw.
Delivering what was undoubtedly the knockout of the year in Puerto Rico, American Ephraim “The Effect” Bui (11-1, 9 KOs) was crowned the NABO bantamweight (118 lbs) champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), dispatching Bayamón native Juan “Juancito” Zayas (13-1-1, 10 KOs) in a devastating victory.
Caguas-born super featherweight (130 lbs) prospect Jaycob “Baki” Gómez (14-0-1, 8 KOs) stopped former Ecuadorian Olympian Luis Porozo in seven rounds.
Abisael “El Sobrino” Cotto (10-0, 8KOs) tuvo un gran desempeño ante el veterano Félix “La Sombra” Caraballo (13-6-2, 9KOs), superándolo por decisión unánime. Los tres jueces anotaron 80-72.
