Former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has predicted victory for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 elections.

According to Nyantakyi, Dr. Bawumia will win the election in the first round with a minimum of 50.8% and a maximum of 51.8%, based on scientific analysis and data.

Speaking in an interview on Lawson TV on Thursday, December 5, 2024, Nyantakyi stated that Dr. Bawumia is poised to make history.

He emphasized that the Saturday, December 7, election will be a contest between two Northerners: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama.

“This election is unique because both presidential candidates are Northerners. Whether we like it or not, the next president will come from the North. Bawumia belongs to the Mole-Dagbani ethnic group, the largest in the Northern region. The Mamprusi, Dagomba, Frafra, Kusasi, and Wala people are all part of the Mole-Dagbani group. On the other hand, Mahama comes from the Guan ethnic group,” he said.

The former CAF Vice President further explained that reduced support for the NDC from Muslim communities in the country could work in favor of the NPP’s presidential candidate.

“While the NDC has historically enjoyed massive support in the Muslim and Northern communities, this has diminished over time. If Bawumia wins this election, it will significantly shift the power balance in the Northern and Muslim communities ahead of 2028. The NDC’s stronghold is shaken, so I would not be surprised if Bawumia wins decisively, perhaps with an even higher percentage,” he added.

Nyantakyi served as GFA President from December 2005 to June 2018. During his tenure, Ghana qualified for its first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2006.

However, he stepped down following a three-month FIFA ban over allegations in the Anas “Number 12” exposé.
