Kwasi Sibo is expected to bolster the Stars' midfield for the crucial game Kwasi Sibo is expected to bolster the Stars’ midfield for the crucial game

Real Oviedo midfielder Kwasi Sibo has reported to the camp of the Ghana Black Stars ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Mali.

The bulky midfielder arrived in camp on Saturday morning and is expected to train with the team before the much-anticipated clash on Monday.

Sibo earned a late Black Stars invite, replacing crocked Bologna midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana, who is expected to depart for Italy on Saturday night for further assessment.

The Spain-based midfielder’s inclusion comes as Otto Addo looks to bolster his midfield options following the Black Stars’ 1-1 draw against Chad in N’Djamena last Thursday.

The 27-year-old has been in impressive form for Oviedo, where he played a crucial role in their successful promotion campaign to La Liga last season.

His consistency, energy, and ability to break up play were key in helping the Spanish club secure top-flight football for the first time in 24-years.

This season, Sibo has featured in all three of Oviedo’s 2025/26 La Liga matches, putting in assured performances against some of Spain’s toughest opposition.

In a high-stake clash on Monday, September 8, 2025, the West African football heavyweights will play host to the Eagles of Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium, with victory crucial to the teams’ qualification chances.

The Black Stars hopes of securing an early qualification to the mundial suffered a minor setback following a disappointing draw at Chad last Thursday.

Currently, the West African football heavyweights sit top of Group I, accumulating 16 points after seven matches, followed by Madagascar (13 points), Mali (12), Comoros (12 points), Central African Republic (5), with Chad securing just a point.

The Black Stars will finalise their 2026 World Cup qualification with games against the Central African Republic and Comoros in October 2025.
