After veteran journalist Kwame Sefa Kayi expressed surprise at remarks made by former Central Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan about talks about former President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana’s political discourse was rekindled.
that Mahama was recently stranded in Dubai.
The former president’s supporters presented the incident as proof of abuse, but Duncan dismissed the notion, claiming it was a sensationalized tale not worthy of national discussion.
Duncan argues that Mahama is not deserving of extra pity for a travel accident. He asked why, if President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had been involved in the same incident, Ghanaians would have responded differently. Tell me,
Kwame Sefa Kayi: is Nana Addo’s inconvenience more important than Mahama’s if he is stuck inDubai? Why make his experience seem so remarkable? Duncan posed a challenge that sparked intense responses online and in the studio.
The comments have sparked intense discussion, with some people supporting Duncan’s demand for equilibrium and others denouncing what they see as a contemptuous attitude toward Mahama’s followers. The exchange demonstrates once more how the political rivalry between the opposition NDC and theruling NPP continues to dominate public discourse in Ghana as the country approaches the 2024 elections.
