With intentions to combine the Ghana News Agency (GNA) with the Information Services Department (ISD), Minister of State Designate Felix Kwakye Ofosu has hinted at a significant overhaul of the government’s communication network. He said the move is intended to modernize government communication and increase efficiency in order to keep up with technology improvements. Speaking during his vetting on Friday, January 31, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized the necessity of a fresh strategy, pointing out that the ISD’s conventional approaches were outdated. In order to ensure better service delivery at a faster pace, he further emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama envisions a redesigned communication system that unifies the ISD and GNA into a single government communication office.

It has become evident that the methods that have been used over the years are no longer appropriate. The ISD used to have movie vans, but now if you bring one to their town, no one will come. It implies that we must adapt and stay up with the speed at which technology is transforming the way that knowledge is disseminated. “Therefore, Mr. President envisions the ISD and GNA being merged into the Government Communication Office in order to provide much better services at a faster pace.”
