The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has responded to the Chairperson and Leader of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Nabla’s petition to Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), demanding a probe into the GH¢78 million allocation to his office.

Nabla, in a letter dated September 8, 2025, raised concerns about what she believes to be a potential misuse and abuse of the amount allocated to the Communications Office, as captured in the 2025 national budget.

Janet Nabla ‘runs’ to EOCO over GH¢78 million allocation to Kwakye Ofosu’s office

“… this office, which does not carry the status of a ministry, has been allocated a sum far exceeding what was historically assigned to the Ministry of Information which operated with GH¢6 million while overseeing six government agencies.

“Kwakye Ofosu’s current office is said to oversee only three agencies, yet received an unprecedented GH¢78 million. This has raised deep concerns among Ghanaians regarding possible abuse of public funds and hidden political motivations,” portions of the petition read.

Nabla outlined four grounds for EOCO to investigate the ministry, including disproportionate budget allocation, demand for clarity on the attached agencies, alleged politically motivated expenditures, and lack of transparency and public accountability.

On the grounds of alleged politically motivated expenditures, Nabla indicated that public concerns suggest that the allocated budget to the Communications Office is allegedly being used to fund selected media outlets and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to further the government’s agenda.

Reacting to the petition, Kwakye Ofosu dismissed her claims as propaganda.

He wrote in a Facebook post on September 8, 2025, saying, “Unintelligent propaganda useful only for its nuisance value.”
