Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, one of the five contenders in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer race, has called for a national-level debate among the aspirants to help elevate the tone of the campaign and enrich internal party democracy.

Speaking in an interview on Movement TV, captured by AP Media, Ing. Agyepong stressed that Ghanaians “deserve to know our different policy positions and where our priorities lie,” adding that such open engagement would demonstrate the party’s readiness to lead not just itself but the entire nation.

“The five candidates must have a solid debate to elevate campaign discourse. We want to lead the country, not only the NPP.”

A Call for a New Political Mindset

Ing. Agyepong said the time had come for a “recalibration of our thinking as Ghanaians and as political leaders.”

According to him, politics should be seen as a platform for service, sacrifice, and selflessness—virtues he believes are missing in today’s political space.

“Politics is not bread and butter but service. That’s why my campaign rests on three key pillars Service, Sacrifice, and Selflessness. These are the virtues our leaders need to truly move Ghana forward,” he declared.

    Going Back to Our Roots

He linked these principles to his campaign theme, “Going Back to Our Roots,” which seeks to reconnect the NPP to the founding ideals of integrity, unity, and devotion to the national interest.

Unifying the party, he said, remains his utmost priority. He recalled how he publicly supported Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after his election as NPP’s 2024 flagbearer — a move that attracted criticism from some party members.

“Unifying the party is the most important thing to me. When Dr. Bawumia was elected, I supported him because the NPP must present a polished image to Ghanaians. If the NPP sends me, Ghanaians will patronize the party and remember my good deeds from the Kufuor era,” he said.

    Faith and Party Loyalty

The former Press Secretary to Former President John Agyekum Kufour and General Secretary of the party said he is guided by faith, noting that he will accept the outcome of the primaries in good faith.

“I pray God touches the delegates to vote for me. But if they don’t, no problem. Election is win or lose, and one must be emotionally prepared for either,” he noted

Ing. Agyepong concluded with a passionate appeal to party supporters to rise above factionalism and serve the NPP’s broader interest.

“Party supporters and members should stop supporting individuals and serve the elephant,” he urged.
