Kurt Okraku, President of WAFU Zone B and head of the Ghana Football Association, has reaffirmed his commitment to developing young referees across West Africa following the opening of a training workshop in Prampram.

The programme, held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, is aimed at nurturing emerging refereeing talent and strengthening officiating standards in the region. It brings together young officials, including participants from Ghana’s “Catch Them Young” initiative, to receive technical guidance and practical training.

Okraku, who also serves as CAF 2nd Vice President, described the workshop as a crucial step in building a solid foundation for the future of African football. He noted that investing in referee development is key to improving the overall quality of the game.

“I am particularly pleased to see some of our promising ‘Catch Them Young’ referees gaining valuable exposure that will prepare them for higher levels,” he said.

He also commended WAFU B and Executive Director Philippe Tchere for organising the initiative, urging participants to embrace professionalism and remain committed to excellence both on and off the pitch.
