The Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Kudjoe Fianoo, has said that it would be a monumental disgrace if the Black Stars do not qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

He stressed that the nation has been making it to the tournament for the last 20 years; hence, not qualifying would mean those in charge of football management in Ghana have failed woefully.

The GHALCA President called on the current leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), led by Kurt Okraku, to resign from their roles due to the dwindling fortunes of football in the country.

Speaking in an interview with Luv FM, Kudjoe Fianoo fumed about the way Kurt Okraku has managed the Black Stars, including the appointment of six different coaches.

“In a few days’ time, we will know our fate as to whether we will play in the AFCON or not. AFCON qualification in the last 20 years was automatic for Ghana even when we had credible contenders in our group. The participating teams in AFCON have been increased to 24 teams now, which should make qualification easier, but we are struggling to qualify.

“If they fail to qualify for AFCON, I don’t know if there’s any failure worse than that, and that is why if that happens, they [GFA leadership] need to eat humble pie and resign. In five years, we have changed about six coaches. What can they say is the reason why we are not doing well?” he said.

Meanwhile, eight players withdrawing from the team has been a big blow for the Black Stars as they aim to win against Niger and Angola and hope Sudan lose their remaining matches to secure qualification.

After four matches, Ghana are third in Group F with two points. Sudan are in second place with seven points, while Angola lead with twelve points.

Ghana will play Angola on November 15, 2024, and return to host Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, 2024.
