Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku has described the launch of the FIFA-backed U15 Girls Regional Colts Leagues as a defining moment in the growth of women’s football in Ghana, insisting the initiative goes beyond a routine addition to the football calendar.

Speaking at the launch ceremony on Friday, Okraku said the league represents a major milestone in the country’s long-term strategy to build women’s football from the grassroots to the elite level.

He expressed appreciation to FIFA for its continued backing through the Women’s Football Development Programme, noting that progress in the women’s game is driven by vision, partnership, and sustained investment. Reflecting on his administration’s tenure since 2019, Okraku reaffirmed the GFA’s commitment to structured and sustainable development across all levels of women’s football.

According to him, the U15 Girls Regional Colts Leagues provide, for the first time, a clear and nationally coordinated pathway for young female footballers across all football regions, aiding early talent identification and consistent player development.

He also stressed the league’s wider social value, describing it as a platform for character building and empowerment. Okraku added that recent investments have already contributed to the resurgence of the Black Queens, while noting that lasting success depends on strong grassroots foundations.
