The candlelight vigil that was supposed to take place in Kumasi, Heros park, in honour of the late Ghanaian music legend, Daddy Lumba, has been put on hold indefinitely.

The vigil was originally scheduled for August 9, 2025.

The change in schedule was announced in an official statement released by the Creative Arts Agency on August 7, 2025.

The statement was signed by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Agency, Gideon Aryeequaye.

According to the Creative Arts Agency, the postponement is out of respect for the eight individuals who sadly lost their lives in a tragic military helicopter crash earlier in the week.

The Agency said it would not be appropriate to go ahead with the Kumasi vigil during a period of national grief.

This decision also follows the government’s declaration of three days of national mourning by President John Dramani Mahama.

The mourning period runs from August 7, to August 9, 2025. During this time, the country is expected to honour the memory of those who died in the accident.

The Kumasi vigil was to follow the successful candlelight ceremony held at the Independence Square in Accra on August 2, 2025.

The candlelight vigil in Accra saw in attendance fans, celebrities, and public figures coming together to celebrate the legacy of Daddy Lumba, who was regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musicians.

Daddy Lumba, aged 60, passed away on July 26, 2025, after a short illness.

The Creative Arts Agency also shared their condolences to the families of the helicopter crash victims.

They shared their sympathy with the affected families and the entire country, acknowledging the pain the nation is going through at this time.
