Following the tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, which took the lives of eight esteemed Ghanaians, former President John Agyekum Kufuor has shared a moving message of sympathy and contemplation.

Speaking to the nation, Kufuor conveyed profound grief over the devastating incident and called on citizens to honor the departed by fostering solidarity, empathy, and a renewed dedication to serving the nation.

“This disaster has deeply wounded our country,” the former president remarked. “As we grieve for those who died while serving Ghana, let us also reaffirm our commitment to the principles that bind us—kindness, shared purpose, and a steadfast determination to contribute to our nation with honor.”

The crash, which happened in the Ashanti Region near Adansi Akrofuom, claimed the lives of high-ranking officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. The sudden tragedy has left the nation in mourning, struggling with an overwhelming sense of loss.

Kufuor’s tribute highlighted the need to channel grief into meaningful action. He urged Ghanaians—across all political and social divides—to transcend differences and use this tragedy as an opportunity for national renewal and progress.

“In moments like these, sorrow can easily overwhelm us. Yet, we must remember that honoring the fallen means uniting to create a more resilient and caring Ghana,” he added.

The former president also appealed to leaders and citizens to uphold the spirit of service and patriotism exemplified by the victims.

“Their sacrifice underscores the noble duty we all bear. Let their commitment inspire us to pursue excellence in our own contributions to society,” he said.

Since the accident, an outpouring of condolences has come from all corners—religious institutions, political leaders, civil organizations, and ordinary Ghanaians—standing together in shared grief.

Kufuor’s words carry significant weight during this period of national mourning, offering both comfort and a rallying cry for unity in remembering those who lost their lives in service to Ghana.

As the country continues to grapple with this loss, his message serves as a poignant reminder that solidarity and compassion are vital in overcoming hardship and building a better future.
