UK-based Ghanaian gospel artist Sonnie Badu has added his voice to the ongoing criticisms of Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus.

Speaking on United Showbiz, Badu suggested that the hype surrounding Kudus might be affecting his performance.

Captaining Ghana in recent fixtures, Kudus faced backlash after a 2-0 loss to Sudan and a goalless draw in Accra.

According to Badu, being hailed as the “star boy” of the team may have contributed to the pressure on Kudus as he has been too casual in games.

“It’s like it’s getting to his head that he’s the star boy, but the star boy hasn’t shown up in games. He gets swallowed. I think there’s too much pressure on him,” Badu stated.

Sonnie Badu was, however, quick to propose ways to ease the pressure on the young talent.

“We need to let him grow through the ranks, become more mature, and understand the African game. The African Cup of Nations qualifiers are different from the World Cup; that’s why players often complain about the challenges,” he added.

Kudus is currently serving a five-match suspension after being sent off for initiating a brawl during West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham in October 2024.
