West Ham midfielder Mohammed Kudus has opened up about his Premier League journey. After his breakout seasons with Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam, the Ghanaian secured a €43 million move to West Ham in 2023, aiming to reach his full potential.

The 24-year-old had an outstanding debut season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in 33 Premier League appearances. Kudus has revealed that his desire to play in England was inspired by Ghanaian football legends Michael Essien and Sulley Ali Muntari, both of whom played in the Premier League.

Speaking in an interview with the Premier League, Kudus shared how watching these icons dominate England’s top flight motivated him to chase his own ambitions.

“To become a Premier League player means a lot to me. I feel it’s also a responsibility because, growing up, watching Michael Essien and Muntari play in the Premier League was a source of motivation for me,” he said.

Kudus further emphasized that his journey in the Premier League is about more than just personal success, acknowledging the responsibility that comes with it.

“Right now, I’m also in this position… But that also comes with the responsibility of shining a light on where I’m from, how I carry myself, and how I represent Ghana and Nima as a whole,” he added.

However, Kudus has struggled to replicate his form from his debut season. So far, he has scored three goals and registered one assist in 22 Premier League games.
