Asante Kotoko‘s dramatic triumph over Golden Kick SC in the 2025 MTN FA Cup Final has not only ended their eight-year title drought but also brought a financial windfall of GH¢180,000.

The Porcupine Warriors secured their 10th FA Cup title on Sunday, June 15, 2025, with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Division One underdogs Golden Kick at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The victory brings them just two titles shy of rivals Hearts of Oak’s record haul of 12.

Kwame Opoku was the hero of the day, scoring both goals for Kotoko. He opened the scoring with a powerful header before Bless Efe equalised for Golden Kick with a stunning free-kick.

But the game turned on a controversial late penalty, awarded by referee Latif Adaari, which Opoku calmly converted to seal the win and his brace.

Despite the controversy, Kotoko celebrated a long-awaited return to FA Cup glory, having last lifted the trophy in 2017.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Chairman of the FA Cup Committee Wilson Arthur revealed the financial rewards for the champions.

“The prize money for the MTN FA Cup is GH¢80,000, plus GH¢100,000 to prepare for the CAF Confederation Cup,” he disclosed.

With their win, Kotoko not only take home GH¢80,000 in prize money but also receive GH¢100,000 in support funds from the Ghana Football Association to aid their campaign in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
