Public Relations Officer of Asante Kotoko, Sarfo Duku, has confirmed that the club will resume football activities after the funeral of their late fan, Francis Yaw Frimpong, well known as Pooley.

The club noted that the decision was taken to show respect to their deceased supporter, who died under tragic circumstances during chaos at a stadium.

During a press conference on February 24, 2025, head coach Prosper Nartey Ogum stated that the entire Kotoko fraternity are saddened by Pooley’s demise.

He charged the Kotoko players to give their best to win the league title when they resume football to honor the late supporter, who stood with the team through thick and thin.

“His loss is deeply painful, but the best way to honor his memory is by working hard, winning games, and ultimately securing the league title in his name. It won’t be easy, but we must stay united, focused, and determined to get the results,” Ogum said.

Meanwhile, Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku visited Kotoko to console the club following Pooley’s demise, stressing that he would do his utmost best to bring the perpetrators to justice as investigations are ongoing.

His meeting with Kotoko was a step toward convincing the club to reconsider their decision to boycott competitive matches until justice is served.

Pooley was stabbed during Kotoko’s game against Nsoatreman on February 2, 2025.

The funeral is scheduled for March 6, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service have arrested some individuals believed to be involved in the chaotic incident that led to the demise of the Asante Kotoko supporter.
