The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League (GPL) started over the weekend with some interesting results across various venues.

Asante Kotoko ended their 15-year winless jinx at the Golden City Park after beating Berekum Chelsea 1-0 in an enthralling encounter.

Albert Amoah scored the only goal of the game to give Kotoko all three points and a morale booster ahead of next week’s CAF Confederation Cup encounter against Nigeria’s Kwara United.

Accra Hearts of Oak made a slow start to their campaign after an uninspiring goalless draw against debutants Hohoe United last Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Hohoe United, despite going down to 10 men later in the second half, frustrated their opponents to secure their first point of the season.

Defending GPL champions Bibiani Gold Stars began their title defence on an impressive note after edging Bechem United 2-1 at the Duns Park.

Samuel Atta Kumi’s first-half brace was enough for Gold Stars, as Dalvin Yeboah’s stunning strike could only serve as a consolation for the Hunters.

Medeama SC also started their season on a good note after securing a 2-0 away victory against Young Apostles.

The “Mauve and Yellow” side, who have been touted as one of the league title favourites, got off to an impressive start courtesy of goals from Paul Yeboah and Emmanuel Owusu.

Swedru All Blacks, who are making a return to the GPL after 16 years, were edged 2-1 by Nations FC at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

Kweku Asuandze Baffoe gave All Blacks the lead in the first half, but Nations scored two goals in the second half to secure all three points.
