In their direct trilogy former champ Deok-No Yun (11-3-1, 9 KOs), 167.5, impressively regained the OPBF, WBO AP super middleweight belts as he chalked up a fine TKO victory over defending regional titlist and ex-Japanese Olympian Yuito Moriwaki (2-1-1; amateur 92-26), 167.75, after the seventh round in a scheduled ten on Friday in Seoul, Korea. We witnessed a dramatic end with the champ Moriwaki retiring on the stool because of a temporarily invisible left eye.
The 6’2” Japanese was obviously in command with his fast and solid jabs and left-right combinations in the first two sessions. The sturdy challenger Yun, however, mixed it up, utilized solid uppercuts in the close quarter and had the tide turn in his favor from the third round on. The taller champ began to bleed from the left optic from the third round on and often grabbed Yun to avert his infighting efforts.
The ref, in round five, penalized a point from Moriwaki for his repeated holding. The seventh saw Yun hurt the champ with his favorite uppercuts in the short range. They often made head-collisions to produce the champ’s badly swollen optic that might cause the champ’s abrupt surrender on his deteriorated eyesight. The Yun adherents burst into great joy to praise his regaining the regional belts in a dramatic fashion. Prior to Moriwaki quitting in the corner, the tallies had been as follows: all 68-64 in Yun’s favor.
In the semi-windup, Japan’s two-time unsuccessful world challenger Taku Kuwahara (15-3, 9 KOs), 114.5, acquired the vacant WBA Asia super flyweight belt by scoring a nearly shutout decision (100-90, 99-91, 97-93) over Korean national titlist Woo-Hyeon Kim (12-2, 1 KO), 114.25, over ten.
Japan’s ex-amateur titlist Kosei Nogami (7-1, 4 KOs; amateur 49-18), 146.25, outhustled previously unbeaten Korean Ju-Young Park (4-1-1, 1 KO), 146.25, winning a majority but popular decision (78-74, 77-75, 76-76) over eight.
