Kofi Gyimah Ankoana, a journalist at Lawson TV, has shared the painful experience he endured while working as a multimedia journalist, particularly during his time at Nhyria FM.

In an interview on De God Son TV on November 14, 2024, the renowned journalist opened up on the disheartening incident that led him to leave Nhyria FM for Lawson TV.

He recounted how the media house promised him GH₵ 30,000 to prevent him from moving to another station but failed to honour their commitment.

Kofi Gyimah emphasised that the promise of the GH₵ 30,000 was not a reward for his hard work, but rather a tactic to keep him from leaving for another job opportunity.

“It was with pain and hurt that I left Nhyria FM. My boss at that radio station tried to use lies to keep me there. One day, two of them called me in to tell me the company was offering me GH₵ 30,000 for my hard work. I thanked them for the offer and even informed my manager about it,” he said.

However, after waiting for two months with no word on the promised payment, Kofi Gyimah explained that the situation worsened after the death of his father.

In need of money, he took a loan of GH₵ 15,000, expecting to repay it once he received the GH₵ 30,000. But when he went to one of the bosses to inquire about the payment, he was told that the decision was being handled from Accra, and there was no authority at the local level to release the funds.

“It became clear they wanted to use the money to keep me at Nhyria. When they found out that Lawson TV had hired someone else to host the program I was supposed to host, they quickly found a backup presenter and sidelined me from hosting my own show. This was their strategy to end my career at Nhyria,” he asserted

Kofi Gyimah also shared how the media house threatened him with legal action after he failed to honour a two-year contract, he had unknowingly signed at Nhyria FM.

He explained that in 2012, he was approached by the station’s program manager, who told him they were distributing money and asked him to come and collect his share.

Kofi Gyimah was given GH₵ 10,000, but it wasn’t until later that he learned the money was tied to a two-year contract.

“Around 2012, the program manager told me they were sharing money and asked me to come collect some. I was given GH₵ 10,000, and after I had spent the money, they told me it was a two-year contract. I didn’t even know about the contract; all they told me was that the money was confidential, and I wasn’t supposed to tell anyone, “He stated.
