Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger has accused Kofi Akpaloo, the flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), of allegedly stealing some GH₵20,000 that was meant for the family of the late Akua Donkor.

In a viral social media video, Afia claimed that the Chief of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare, met with the family and gave them an amount of GH₵20,000.

According to Afia, Kofi Akpaloo, who received the money on behalf of the family, did not give them the full amount.

“Kofi Akpaloo pocketed the GH₵20,000 that was meant for the family’s transportation. He gave them only GH₵1,000 each and paid for the fried rice they ate at Afrikiko. What a cheap thief!” Afia wrote on Instagram.

Afia continued, “He also told the family that he would secure GH₵4 billion from Dr. Bawumia for the one-week funeral, which is why the family is talking,” she added.

Afia Schwarzenegger also said Akpaloo made a fake promise to the family that Vice President Dr. Bawumia intends to airlift Akua Donkor’s body with a military helicopter for her burial service.

“Kofi Akpaloo told the family that Dr. Bawumia had promised to airlift Akua Donkor’s body with a military helicopter, and they actually believed this nonsense,” she added.

Akpaloo, however, has responded to these allegations in an interview on Kingdom FM.

Admitting that he received the GH₵20,000 from the Chief of Staff, he claimed that he informed the family about the amount he received and added another GH₵20,000 from his own pocket.

“I was the one who asked the Chief of Staff to give the family some money for transportation. She gave them GH₵20,000, but I realised it wasn’t enough, so I added another GH₵20,000,” he explained.

“I took them to Afrikiko and asked them to eat. Then I rushed to my office to bring the additional money. I informed them about the money and told them that I wasn’t sure who should receive it, so I decided to share it among them,” Akpaloo added.

    Background

Akua Donkor, the founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), passed away suddenly on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, after a brief illness.
