Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed the reason behind the decision to keep the Black Stars’ budget confidential.

Prior to the games, President John Mahama had called for the publication of the Black Stars’ budget to ensure transparency.

However, the budget for the Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar was not made public, sparking an outcry from fans.

Despite these concerns, Adams defended the decision to disregard the president’s directive. Speaking to Asempa FM, he explained that withholding the budget was necessary to avoid creating distractions for the team.

“People were asking me to disclose the budget for the games, but I kept asking myself what purpose it would serve for the team ahead of the matches. Sometimes, certain situations create distractions for the team, so we must carefully weigh every decision before making it,” he said.

Adams also acknowledged the high costs involved in covering expenses for many of the players, who are based in Europe.

“The budget for the team will be made available. There is nothing to hide from the public, but we must understand that taking care of the national team is expensive because most of the players are coming from Europe,” he added.

The Black Stars concluded the fifth and sixth rounds of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers on a high note, securing impressive wins against Chad and Madagascar on March 21 and March 24, 2025, respectively.
