Minister for Sports and Recreation Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams has backed the possible inclusion of Andre Ayew in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The experienced Black Stars captain is currently without a club after recently leaving NAC Breda following their relegation from the Dutch Eredivisie.
Despite missing the first half of the 2025/26 season without competitive football, Ayew later joined the Dutch side and went on to make 17 appearances while scoring once.
With Carlos Queiroz expected to announce his final World Cup squad soon, discussions continue over whether the 36-year-old veteran should be included for the tournament in North America.
Speaking in an interview with Adom TV, the Buem Constituency M.P admitted he would have no problem if Andre Ayew is included in the squad because of his experience and quality.
“I don’t think it is a bad idea if Andre Ayew is named in the World Cup squad. I don’t know the coach’s plan or strategy, but if I were the coach and I had a player with the calibre of Andre Ayew, why not?” Adams said.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Ahead of the tournament, the Black Stars are also scheduled to play friendly matches against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2 as preparations intensify for the global competition.
