Kintampo, Bono East Region — Management of the Kintampo Waterfalls has strongly condemned the circulation of false information on social media aimed at tarnishing the image of the renowned tourist attraction.

Despite undergoing major renovations—including the addition of paved walkways, extra staircases, and a new canopy walkway—the facility did not meet its 2024 goal of attracting 30,000 visitors. Management attributes this shortfall, in part, to the impact of misleading content circulating online.

    ⸻

    Misconceptions Linked to Water Discoloration

One of the false claims being spread is that the waterfall’s coloration is due to illegal mining. However, the site’s manager, Michael Afeke, explained the natural cause behind the phenomenon:

“The main thing is that when it rains, the rains carry a lot of waste, and that is what changes the colour of the water. Because of the illegal mining issue in the country, people assume that it is a result of that, but we shouldn’t use it as a platform to parade false news.”

    ⸻

    Strategic Push to Increase Visitors

Despite setbacks, management remains optimistic. According to Afeke, a mix of traditional and digital marketing strategies is being deployed to meet this year’s visitor target.

“There are so many strategies on board. There is the traditional marketing which involves the local media available in Kintampo and also the digital media. These are the two ways that have strengthened our marketing, and we are seeing the results so far.”

    ⸻

    Visitors Praise Upgraded Experience

Tourists who recently visited the site have commended the enhanced infrastructure and the natural beauty of the location.

“We have heard a lot about the place, so we came to observe, and when we came, compared to previous conversations that we have heard, I think there has been a bit of exchange.”

“I have heard a lot about the place, but this is my first time being here. Most of the people that we came with have been there before, and they told us about it, so we travelled about four hours just to experience it.”

    ⸻

Management is urging the public to disregard unverified social media posts and visit the waterfall to experience the improvements firsthand. The Kintampo Waterfalls remain a prime eco-tourism destination, offering a refreshed and safe environment for relaxation and adventure.
