Britain’s Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana, Keith McMahon, has described the late Daddy Lumba as a “cultural pop icon” whose music resonated far beyond Ghana’s borders.

He made the remarks during a visit to the family of the late Highlife legend to convey condolences on behalf of the United Kingdom and the international community.

Speaking to Graphic News during the visit, McMahon revealed that King Charles III is among the artist’s admirers, even listing one of Daddy Lumba’s songs among his personal favourites on his iPhone.

“As many of you may know, King Charles… was such a fan of Daddy Lumba, and he has an iPhone playlist, and one of his favourites was a Daddy Lumba song,” he said.

McMahon emphasised the significance of his visit, stating, “I want to express Britain’s… and indeed the world’s condolences, because Daddy Lumba was a cultural pop icon. It was important to come here today to remind the family that although he is no longer with us, his influence will live on for a long time. God bless Daddy Lumba.”

The Deputy High Commissioner’s visit is part of a growing list of dignitaries paying tribute to the late musician.

Notable figures such as former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia have also visited the Fosu family in recent days.

Daddy Lumba’s passing on July 26, 2025, prompted an outpouring of grief across Ghana and beyond.

A worldwide candlelight vigil was held on August 2, 2025, in his honour, featuring tributes and performances from various creatives across the country.
