Sports journalist Ayishatu Zakari Ali has raised concerns over the possibility of Kim Lars Björkegren, head coach of the Ghana women’s national football team, joining the Ghana national football team technical team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a video shared on her Facebook page, Zakari Ali explained that Björkegren is expected to be fully engaged with the Black Queens ahead of the postponed 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which was rescheduled by the Confederation of African Football.
According to the journalist, the new WAFCON dates now clash with preparations and activities surrounding the men’s World Cup, making it impractical for the Swedish tactician to divide his attention between both national teams.
Zakari Ali noted that Björkegren’s primary responsibility remains with the Black Queens, who are preparing for a crucial continental campaign where Ghana hopes to challenge for honours.
She stressed that the coach’s full focus will be required to properly prepare the women’s national team, suggesting that his presence with the Black Stars at the World Cup would not be feasible under the circumstances.
The development highlights scheduling challenges following CAF’s decision to postpone the continental tournament.
