Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Dr. Bawumia Ghana has announced that kidney dialysis treatment will now be covered under its insurance plan starting this December 2024.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has recognized the importance of providing this essential medical service to Ghanaian citizens suffering from kidney failure.

According to Dr. Bawumia, including kidney dialysis treatment in the NHIS coverage is a significant step towards ensuring that all Ghanaians have access to quality healthcare services.

Kidney dialysis is a life-saving treatment for individuals with kidney failure, a condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Without dialysis, patients with kidney failure would not be able to remove waste and excess fluid from their bodies, leading to serious health complications and even death.

The inclusion of kidney dialysis treatment in the NHIS coverage is a reflection of the government’s commitment to providing universal healthcare to all its citizens.

Access to essential medical services should not be a privilege but a fundamental right for every individual, regardless of their socioeconomic status. With this new coverage, more Ghanaians will have the opportunity to receive life-saving treatment without the burden of high out-of-pocket costs.

The number of people suffering from kidney failure is on the rise, and without access to dialysis treatment, many individuals would face a grim prognosis.
