Kenyan Senator Gloria Orwoba has responded to a Nairobi newspaper for publishing what she termed “gossip.”

The Nairobian Newspaper, on Friday, December 20, 2024, published news about the Senator and former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, with the headline: “Orwoba love affair with President Kufuor: Bundle of Joy. Gloria delivered a bouncing baby boy from her relationship with a former Ghanaian leader but refused to disclose more about their dating life.”

However, responding to the publication in an official statement on December 20, 2024, she accused the newspaper of spreading propaganda by linking her to a romantic affair with Kufuor.

Orwoba noted that being a female politician means dealing with all forms of violence for the better part of her career. She has called for an apology and retraction of the article.

“I take great exception to the salacious gossip framed by The Nairobian Newspaper as the truth to whatever end.

“For the better part of my career as a female politician, I have had to deal with all forms of violence – verbal and physical. I have bravely confronted powerful men across all social strata up to the apex of leadership, challenging them on certain actions and inactions that entrench and perpetuate negative patriarchy.

“That we shamelessly infringe and invade private spaces, especially for women and including those of minors who cannot afford the right of reply, is unfortunate. At the very least, an Honourable Statesman of Africa like H.E. John Kufuor should be given his right of reply.

“For these reasons, I demand an apology and withdrawal of this article and the propaganda it insinuates,” her statement read.
