The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has refuted claims that his 2024 parliamentary campaign was funded by New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on October 4, 2025, A Plus addressed the rumours surrounding his campaign financing, stating clearly that he personally sponsored his own campaign.
“Kennedy Agyapong is my friend and my brother, but he didn’t sponsor my campaign,” A-Plus said.
He further indicated that he rather supported Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign that year.
“I mobilised funds to support his primaries. I actually supported his campaign, and if he is listening to me, he knows what I am saying,” he said.
The outspoken politician, who contested as an independent candidate, went on to secure a decisive victory in the December 7 parliamentary election, garnering 14,277 votes out of 36,026 valid votes cast.
He defeated the incumbent Naana Eyiah Quansah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who obtained 11,637 votes, while Yawson Mohamed of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) placed third with 10,112 votes.
