The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has said that the Kasoa–Winneba stretch of the coastal highway would be ready by June 2026.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on November 24, 2025, he said the contractor had assured him that the section would be completed by mid-next year.

“The contractor says that by June next year it will all be done,” he said.

Agbodza also touched on the Winneba–Mankessim section of the project, explaining that the contract gives the contractors two years to finish the work. However, he believes that particular stretch will be done before 2027.

“For the Winneba to Mankessim section, the contract allows for two years, but I am confident it will be completed before 2027,” he stated.

According to him, once all the ongoing projects are wrapped up, the entire route from Kasoa to Takoradi will be fully dualised, improving travel between the Greater Accra and Central Regions.

The broader Kasoa–Winneba–Mankessim works are being handled by three different contractors, while the Cape Coast–Takoradi segment is being executed by another firm.

Agbodza, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Adaklu, noted that the Cape Coast–Takoradi road is a bigger undertaking because it connects two major regions.

He said that within the Central Region, the Kasoa–Winneba and Winneba–Mankessim portions are moving along well.

“When you drive from Winneba to Mankessim, you’ll notice we’re constructing an entirely new road beside the old one to make it dual carriage. The Winneba interchange wasn’t part of the original plan, but it’s now been added,” he said.

Agbodza also addressed the heavy traffic and delays that motorists faced earlier in the year on the Kasoa–Winneba road. He admitted that part of the problem came from how the construction was scheduled.

“We made an error by working on the main carriageway and the expansion at the same time. That created the bottlenecks people experienced,” he explained.

When completed, the fully dualised coastal highway is expected to ease congestion, improve movement along the corridor, and boost economic activity for road users and businesses.
