Veteran sports journalist Bright Kankam Boadu has criticised the family of the late Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong popularly known as Pooley over their plans to petition Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II regarding the adoption of the deceased’s children.
The Asantehene officially enrolled Pooley’s children onto his educational fund, easing the financial burden of their schooling and helping secure a brighter future for them.
However, reports suggest that some family members plan to petition Otumfuo to extend his support exclusively to the two biological children, thereby excluding the adopted ones.
In response, Boadu described the alleged move as unwise, considering the Asantehene’s generous support.
The 2025 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Sports Journalist of the Year advised those behind the plot to ditch the idea, calling it foolish.
“Those planning to petition Otumfuo over the adoption of Pooley’s children, it’s stupidity of the highest order. You don’t need to be the biological father of a person to care for them. Since when did we get here? Those behind the plot, will Otumfuo use your money to cater for the children? This is foolishness,” he fumed while speaking on Pure FM.
He added, “The man adopted the kids due to Pooley’s service to Kotoko and the circumstances of his death. Yet, people have issues with that. The family head leading this charge is a bad person.”
