Albert Kan Dapaah, the Minister for National Security, has emphasised the critical need for a peaceful and fair electoral process.

In a recent interview on Kessben FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, he outlined the collaborative efforts to ensure the elections proceed without incident, underscoring his ministry’s commitment to maintaining stability in such a pivotal moment.

“The Electoral Commissioner, Jean Mensa, is the primary authority whose decisions will ultimately shape the results of this election,” Kan Dapaah began, highlighting the central role of the Electoral Commission in upholding democracy.

“However, my responsibility, together with the Inspector General of Police, is to ensure that peace prevails before, during, and after the elections.”

His statement serves as a timely reminder of the importance of collaboration among key state institutions during electoral processes.

With rising tensions in some regions and the emotional charge often accompanying elections, the minister’s assurances aim to bolster public confidence in the system.

Reflecting on Ghana’s history of democratic elections, Kan Dapaah acknowledged the strides the country has made in conducting relatively peaceful polls.

“We have come a long way as a nation in demonstrating to the world that democracy can thrive in Africa. It’s now up to us to continue on this path,” he said.

Yet, he cautioned against complacency, emphasising that sustaining peace requires vigilance and proactive measures. Kan Dapaah also issued a stern warning to potential troublemakers who might seek to disrupt the process.

“Let me make it clear: we are prepared to deal with any actions that threaten the peace of this country. Those who think they can disrupt the elections will face the full force of the law,” he stated firmly.
